Senior Air Quality Specialist – InfrastructureAs a Senior Air Quality Specialist, you will report to the Service Director and lead air quality assessments on infrastructure projects within our Air Permitting and Compliance Service Line in Ontario. You will play a key senior technical leadership role on some of Ontario’s most complex, high‑profile infrastructure projects. The compensation range for this role is $130,000 to $170,000, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience providing technical direction and strategy, and leading and delivering projects on schedule and on budget. To thrive in this role, you’ll need to be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities.
- Actively participate in and promote the strong safety culture at Onterris
- As a Subject Matter Expert, lead complex air quality assessments related to major infrastructure projects on transit, highways, tunnels, and rail projects
- Manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Plan and execute the full lifecycle of infrastructure air quality management from pre‑construction assessment, construction phase monitoring and mitigation, assessment updates and reporting
- Maintain oversight and provide direction for all aspects of the management plan implementation including contractor coordination and compliance
- Be present at the construction site as required to effectively collaborate with constructors and design/build teams, and to monitor project execution
- Provide permitting strategy direction and interface with regulators as required
- Contribute to business development activities including bolstering client accounts with previous experience and client contacts, contributing to client account management, as well as leading proposals including scoping and budgeting
- Prepare, review and support technical reports and deliverables
- Direct, mentor and develop junior staff members
- Coordinate with internal project teams across various disciplines, including engineers, environmental scientists, technicians, physicists, and chemists
- Ensure effective internal communication and collaboration to deliver high‑quality products that meet our clients’ unique project needs
- Degree in environmental, chemical or civil engineering with a minimum of 10 years of direct experience in consulting practice
- Professional registration in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or the ability to achieve the designation is an asset
- Expertise in air emissions quantification, monitoring program design, impact assessment and mitigation strategy using appropriate methodologies for infrastructure projects
- Ability to assess ambient air quality and identify exceedances of limits set by all applicable regulators
- Experience in utilizing real‑time monitoring data to plan and execute adaptive mitigation strategies
- Demonstrated ability to select and utilize appropriate air dispersion and emission estimation models (e.g. AERMOD, CAL4
HQC and CAL3
HQCR, MOVES) for infrastructure construction project impact assessment - Applied understanding of guidance and requirements established by Metrolinx, MECP, ECCC and other agencies as applicable
- Experience in preparing and updating Construction Air Quality Management Plans, Air Quality Assessments and other deliverables to satisfy Project Agreement requirements
- Located in the Greater Toronto Area or immediate vicinity with an expectation to work in the Oakville office full‑time or on a hybrid basis for 2–3 days/week in the office
- Ability to travel with a valid and clean Canadian driver’s license with no restrictions
