Job Description & How to Apply Below

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

The successful candidate must be confident to work autonomously, within a supportive team, in providing continuity of care to families in Oban, Lorn & Islands. The successful applicant will be based in Oban but expected to travel to other maternity units within Argyll & Bute to cover when necessary. At times, you may be required to cover home births within the Health Care Partnership (HSCP).

You will be the named midwife to a caseload providing a full range of care. There is an on call commitment overnight providing Out of Hours care. You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

A Full/current UK driving licence is essential for this post along with the use of your own car to commute. A pool car will be provided for community visits and an overnight on call service.

Oban Maternity Service is proactive in supporting local birth, whether at home or within the stand‑alone community maternity unit. All mothers and babies will be offered a family‑centred, safe and compassionate approach to their care, recognising their own unique circumstances (Best Start).

This post is offered on a fixed term/secondment contract until June 2027.
