Patient Access Specialist - Allen Hospital (PRN)
Location: Oberlin, OH (Mercy Allen Hospital)
This is a PRN "As Needed" position at Mercy Allen Hospital. The role performs admitting duties for all patients admitted for services, ensuring compliance with mission, goals, and regulatory requirements.
Shift / Schedule- Full‑time training
- Shift times – All (availability required on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift as needed)
- Weekend and holiday availability required
- Assign accurate MRNs, complete medical necessity/compliance checks, and provide patient instructions.
- Collect insurance information, receive and process physician orders, and utilize overlay tools while maintaining excellent customer service measured by Press Ganey.
- Operate the telephone switchboard for incoming, outgoing, and inter‑office calls.
- Perform quality auditing and reporting to ensure account accuracy and meet audit standards.
- Pre‑register patient accounts prior to visits, including inbound/outbound calling for demographic, insurance, and financial liability information; collect point‑of‑service collections and past‑due balances with payment plan options.
- Explain consent treatment forms, obtain necessary signatures, and distribute patient education documents (e.g., Medicare, Tricare, Observation Forms, MOON form, Consent forms).
- Review insurance eligibility responses, enter benefit data, and support point‑of‑service collections and billing processes to assist with a clean claim rate.
- Screen medical necessity using the Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) software for Medicare patients and distribute ABNs as appropriate.
- Perform all other duties as assigned, including answering phones at applicable facilities.
- High School Diploma or GED required; 2‑year Associate’s Degree preferred.
- 1‑2 years of patient access experience highly preferred.
- Certification: CHAA (Certified Health Access Associate) preferred.
- Training in medical terminology, CPT, or procedure codes preferred.
