Job Description
The primary responsibility of a multi-modality technologist is to perform any combination of two imaging modalities, producing images for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner.
Responsibilities- Performs duties for any 2 imaging modalities (e.g., XR, CT) and holds appropriate ARRT, RDMS, or CNMT credentials as applicable.
- Operates equipment, accessories and is knowledgeable in workflows, procedures and processes of the two imaging modalities.
- Selects appropriate imaging sequences with consideration to approved protocols and data acquisition parameters.
- Obtains patient clinical history and appropriate lab work, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
- Applies safety principles to minimize risk to patient, self and others and protect image quality.
- Provides radiation protection and modality-specific safety for patients and others.
- Verifies patient identification using two identifiers and validates the procedure order.
- Performs venipuncture and may start, maintain or remove IV access as required by the modalities.
- Identifies, prepares and/or administers medications/contrast as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Uses a power injector for medication administration with approved vascular access device, following manufacturer guidelines.
- Occasionally scheduled for on-call as required.

Licensing/CertificationCertification and registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) or CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist) is required. Competence in two of the following areas is required and certification must be obtained within 12 months:
Radiologic Technology (R), Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasonography (S), Mammography (M), Vascular Sonography (VS), or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT).
Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred upon hire and must be obtained from an approved source prior to direct patient care. State licensure is preferred unless required by the state where the job is performed.
EducationAssociate's degree from an ARRT-accredited program or approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program or School of Ultrasound/Medical Sonography (preferred).
Work Experience1 year of experience in a healthcare environment (preferred).
TrainingEPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred);
Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) (preferred);
Radiology Information System (RIS) (preferred); IV contrast administration (preferred).
All ages as appropriate: neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics. Not applicable to this position for certain populations.
Working ConditionsPeriods of high stress and fluctuating workloads; potential exposure to physical altercations, verbal abuse, and possible use of physical restraints. May be exposed to adverse weather, high noise, bright lights, limited hazardous substances or body fluids, and human blood or other potentially infectious materials. May require travel to off-site locations and periods of working alone. May work in multiple departments during a shift.
