About the role:

This position performs advanced professional work supervising and directing the work of child protective investigators and support staff, with a focus on communication, motivation, training and evaluation of employees.

What you will do
  • Supervise, plan and direct workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization of subordinate staff in the delivery of protecting children, working with families and conducting investigations of alleged abused, abandoned, neglected or exploited children.
  • Develop performance standards and ensure investigators understand and meet expectations; review standards and plan for continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching and feedback on performance, including acknowledging outstanding work and suggesting improvements.
  • Evaluate employees against established standards and take corrective action when needed.
  • Promote career development by ensuring proper training and leading cross-training efforts on differential investigative skills.
  • Review casework, assessments and safety plans with investigators; provide consultation to assure quality, clarity and proper documentation.
  • Use management tools in information systems to monitor open cases and manage workflow to meet timelines and prevent backlog.
  • Ensure CPI operations comply with legislative authority and applicable federal and state rules and regulations.
  • Identify improvements and implement adjustments to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Engage in hiring, promotion, discipline and dismissal processes as appropriate.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data regarding child protective investigations.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with community-based providers, legal services, law enforcement, medical, schools and other resources.
  • Ensure effective communication with deaf or hard-of-hearing customers and manage related service records and training needs as required by ADA/Section 504.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (degree must be conferred at the time of application).
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work or related field preferred.
  • At least 2 years in child welfare, with preference for experience in child abuse investigations.
  • Current/Active Florida Child Protective Investigator Certification from the Florida Certification Board.
  • Must be trained and practicing Florida's Safety Practice method.
  • Valid Driver License; must possess a private vehicle for daily work activities with proof of vehicle registration and insurance; employer provides a Vehicle Insurance Allowance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of theories and practice in child protection and professional ethics related to child protection and counseling.
  • Knowledge of family-centered interview and counseling techniques; interviewing and observation techniques.
  • Ability to consider child development in placement decisions; recognize indicators of abuse and neglect.
  • Ability to conduct risk and safety investigations; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; effectively listen and communicate; maintain well-executed case files.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and utilize computer systems; write accurate investigative reports.
