Natural Gas Utility Inspector at Magnolia River

Description
  • Evaluate the job, construction route, and be familiar with the traffic flow prior to project start.
  • Walk door‑to‑door, meeting with all residential customers as required by the client scope of work. Address any concerns before starting construction; take pictures, make detailed notes, and point out any concrete or paving damage to avoid problems later. All documentation is uploaded into Field

    LogIQ.
  • Meet with contractors to review the job and discuss any concerns. Obtain crew lists and confirm that all crew are Operator Qualified (OQ) before work begins.
  • Document daily progress of each project assigned in the proprietary Field

    LogIQ system, following the entry requirements outlined in the Field

    LogIQ User Expectations Form. Client‑specific systems and forms may be required.
  • In conjunction with the client representative, make field recommendations on line placement when unknown conflicts arise, confirming changes in writing by email with the appropriate client representative.
  • Verify tie‑in points are acceptable by ensuring the line being tapped meets the minimum wall thickness, observing and documenting measurement results by the welder or corrosion specialist.
  • Understand Best Management Practices, including proper placement of silt fencing and hay socks.
  • Visually inspect welds and fusions on all fittings and joints, verifying adherence to all manufacturer and client procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate OQ skills.
  • Observe proper jeeping of pipelines, document voltage and results, and visually inspect coating of welds. Repair anomalies and document the measurement of coating thickness.
  • Determine if services need to be installed at a particular customer location, coordinating tie‑ins with the construction department and service rebuilds with the service department.
  • Understand meter placement for relocates and move‑outs as outlined in the client’s construction standards.
  • Help resolve landscaping and/or restoration issues in collaboration with contractors, customers, and the client.
  • Confirm accuracy of contractor documentation and invoices to reflect specific tasks and/or linear feet of pipe installed.
  • Accurately complete all documentation—including OQ lists, completion reports, as‑built install and retirement drawings, material lists, anode cards, pressure test charts, service data, and service field orders—within the allotted time frame.
  • Understand city and county paving cut and backfill standards; verify paving and concrete repairs with contractors.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and orally.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report incidents, near‑misses, accidents, and injuries as outlined in the Event Reporting Guidelines. Provide leadership through example and sharing of knowledge and skills.
  • Assist the Inspection Manager with training incoming inspectors.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve goals.
  • Extensive travel is required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Read and understand construction prints.
  • Sketch construction drawings and/or use software for construction diagrams (as‑built).
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation during construction.
  • Adhere to safety standards and proactively reduce safety risk.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Rapidly establish credibility and relationships with a broad range of individuals.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Meet project deadlines.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in the natural gas industry and HDPE pipe experience is required.
  • Experience with visual inspection of steel pipe welds and polyethylene pipe fusions, reading construction prints, and completing as‑built drawings is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a car or truck.
  • Hands‑on construction experience is desired.
Physical Demands
  • Work primarily outdoors with exposure to changing weather conditions.
  • Perform moderate physical activity, including somewhat strenuous daily tasks of a primarily productive/technical nature.
  • Navigate uneven surfaces of a construction excavation work zone, frequently bending at knees and waist.
  • Work in a very loud, active construction environment.
  • Communicate accurately with co‑workers and clients.
