Safety Manager – The AMES Companies, Inc. – Ocala, FL

Salary: $84,800 - $155,500 per year

Where You Will Work

Our Closet Maid Ocala facility is a 600,000‑square‑foot manufacturing and distribution center.

What You Will Do
  • Develop and maintain Health & Safety policies, procedures, and manuals in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. This role ensures compliance with OSHA and ANSI/RIA standards while driving a proactive safety culture in a rapidly evolving automated environment.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify and eliminate potential hazards and risks.
  • Investigate and report on all incidents, accidents, and near‑misses involving EHS issues.
  • Maintain and audit the digital EHS platform (Velocity) for incident tracking, corrective actions, training records, and compliance documentation.
  • Implement and monitor corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence and improve performance.
  • Coordinate and conduct EHS training and awareness programs for all employees and managers.
  • Manage and maintain EHS records and documentation, including permits, licenses, reports, and certificates.
  • Establish and track EHS performance indicators and goals, and report on progress and achievements.
  • Lead the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure all operational, equipment, procedural, and organizational changes are evaluated for safety, health, and environmental impact. Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to identify potential hazards associated with proposed changes.
  • Lead and support EHS initiatives and projects as assigned.
  • In partnership with Human Resources, manage and coordinate the injury management process, including reporting, investigation, treatment, and return to work.
  • Spend 40 percent of time in plant, covering all shifts.
  • Represent the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
Requirements
  • 4‑year degree with a safety emphasis preferred; credentials and experience evaluated otherwise.
  • 4‑6 years’ experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety position; previous manufacturing industry a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in robotic systems and industrial automation.
  • Excellent communication skills and a high confidence in expressing professional opinions.
  • Commitment to ethical behavior with a willingness to adhere to all company policies.
  • Flexibility in work habits; must be able to multi‑task and self‑manage.
  • Availability for EHS coverage during off shifts or local emergencies.
  • Strong English communication skills (verbal & written).
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
