Job Summary

The Engineering Technologist I position is the first level (second level if Engineering Technologist II) of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. An Engineering Technologist I applies developing technical expertise to solve simple problems and management skills to provide oversight of work in a specific area of developing expertise, with close supervision. An Engineering Technologist I is expected to develop skills and ability in their field of study and work with some degree of independence.

Responsibilities
  • Work within a team environment to accomplish a common goal
  • Apply technical expertise in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise
  • Communicate with customers both internal and external to ensure satisfaction
  • Ensure accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
  • Apply beginner level knowledge in preparing thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches
  • Conduct engineering and related studies and perform design work for field construction
  • Strive to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance
  • Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintain accurate records and files
  • Support the company's goals and represent the company positively and professionally
Required / Basic Qualifications

Engineering Technologist I

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) with no experience, OR
  • In lieu of above degree, high school diploma/GED AND two (2) years minimum required related experience

Engineering Technologist II

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology with no experience, OR
  • Associate degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology AND two (2) years minimum required related experience, OR
  • In lieu of above degrees and experience, high school diploma/GED AND four (4) years minimum required related experience
Desired Qualifications
  • In addition to desired degree, 2 years related work experience
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Understanding of basic principles of project management
  • Good written and oral communication skills
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
  • Work will be performed both in an office setting and in a field setting
Specific Requirements
  • Valid driver's license
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Good written and oral communication skills
