The role you'll contribute:

The Lead Phlebotomist is responsible for the efficient collection of blood samples utilizing standard venipuncture and microtainer techniques. This role entails the receipt of laboratory specimens and the processing of samples for Laboratory testing. In addition to performing clerical and client service functions in the Laboratory as requested, the Lead Phlebotomist plays a crucial role in the day‑to‑day functioning of the Phlebotomy and Processing team.

Working under the guidance and direct supervision of the Support Services Supervisor, this individual is expected to cover all functions and fill in as needed. The Lead Phlebotomist is also tasked with the training and competency assessment of phlebotomists and processors. Furthermore, the person in this role assists the Processing Area Supervisor in coordinating the daily activities of the Phlebotomy Team and Specimen Processing area.

This includes being the primary provider of orientation and training for newly hired staff as well as offering updated in‑service training to Phlebotomists and Laboratory Assistants. The Lead Phlebotomist acts as the "In Charge" person over the Phlebotomy Team and Specimen Processing Area during the times the Processing Supervisor is absent, ensuring seamless operations and maintaining high standards of care and efficiency.

  • Performs venipuncture and microtainer collection accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensures specimens are correctly labeled and orders are received properly.
  • Prioritizes routine specimen receipt in the laboratory on a first‑in, first‑out basis, with stat and alert specimens prioritized before routine orders.
  • Troubleshoots phlebotomy service concerns and coordinates daily workload assignments.
  • Supports leadership with daily workflow and problem resolution.
Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:

  • High School Grad or Equiv Required
  • 1 Work Experience Required
  • Phlebotomy Technician (PBTASCP) Required
