Surgical Tech Apprentice

Position Overview

This Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship position is offered by the Singing River Healthcare Academy. The 1-year program includes academic instruction at the Academy and surgical rotation at Gulfport, Ocean Springs, and Pascagoula. Apprentices assist in operating room preparation and instrument management, anticipate surgeon needs, and handle instruments and supplies for surgical procedures. The Apprentice ensures aseptic technique and quality patient care in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies.

The Apprentice assists in the preparation of the operating room, accounts for all items required during the procedure—including all instrumentation and sutures—and follows procedure expectations. The Apprentice monitors instrument and supply needs, anticipates the surgeon’s needs, and handles instruments, supplies, and necessary equipment for the surgical procedure.

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Maintain enrollment and good academic standing in the Singing River Health System Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship program.
• BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.

None required. No license required.

Surgical Tech/First Assistant Educator;
Surgical Patient Care Manager; OR Leader

Moderately active: frequent movement, travel to additional facilities, negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull objects. Repetitive wrist and hand motions during daily work. Must be able to work schedules with potential changes for off days, shifts, or weekends.

Demonstrate keen decision making, strong communication (verbal and written), emotional stability for high stress levels, and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and multi‑tasking in complex situations required.

Superior customer service skills, professional etiquette, computer proficiency (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word), appropriate clinical judgment, and travel throughout the SRHS service area with employee providing own transportation.
