This 1‑year Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship program is offered by Singing River Healthcare Academy. The apprenticeship includes academic coursework at the Academy and practical training at Gulfport, Ocean Springs, and Pascagoula surgical locations. Upon completion, the Apprentice earns certification and commits to a 2‑year role as a full‑time Surgical Technologist. Throughout the program, the Apprentice assists in operating room preparation, accounts for all instrument and suture supplies, and anticipates the surgeon’s needs.

The Apprentice ensures quality patient care through aseptic technique and performs all duties in accordance with Singing River Health System policies and accreditation guidelines.

• High School graduate or equivalent.

• Enrollment in the Singing River Health System Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship program with good academic standing.

• BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer (required).

• None required.

• No license requirement.

Surgical Tech/First Assistant Educator;
Surgical Patient Care Manager; OR Leader

Moderately active work involving frequent movement, travel within the SRHS service area, and negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including the human body. Exposure to body fluids and repetitive wrist, hand, and finger motions while operating standard office equipment. Visual acuity and ability to focus are required. Must be active for extended periods and work adaptable schedules including off days, shifts, or weekends.

Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and telephone), decision‑making, and emotional stability are required to work under high stress, meet deadlines, and maintain collaborative relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.

Superior customer service skills, professional etiquette, computer proficiency (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word), and appropriate clinical judgment for patients of all ages. Must be able to demonstrate clinical judgment and apply skills to a patient population of all ages. Travel is required throughout the SRHS service area; employee must provide own transportation.
