Patient Care Associate
Ocean Springs Hospital, 3109 Bienville Blvd, Ocean Springs, Mississippi 39564. Part‑time, 7 AM – 7 PM.
Position OverviewThe Patient Care Associate provides basic nursing care (personal and restorative care) to patients according to predefined guidelines and a plan of care established by a Registered Nurse or LPN, under direct supervision of the RN or LPN. The role follows CDC Guidelines for Infection Control and Singing River Health System nursing protocols. All duties are performed in accordance with SRHS policies, accreditation requirements, and governing healthcare guidelines.
EducationHigh School Diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of a Nurse Assistant/Aide program preferred.
LicenseN/A
Certification- Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification recognized by the State of Mississippi Department of Health preferred. CNA certification required upon hire for the skilled nursing facility (SNF) unit.
- Apprentice transferring to SNF will be allowed 120 days to schedule the skills exam; if not obtained within that period, removal from the SNF unit will occur.
- Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
- Must have de‑escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must possess an appropriate level of de‑escalation training.
Equivalent related work experience or completion of a Nurse Aide program required.
Reports ToRegistered Nurse or LPN responsible for patient care management during a shift.
SupervisesNone.
Physical DemandsWork is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move within the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Tasks require modest force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Exposure to bodily fluids and substances that may carry infectious disease may occur. Repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movements are common in operating standard office equipment such as a computer keyboard.
Good vision and hearing at normal levels are required. Ability to remain active for extended periods and work varying schedules is essential.
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties for assessment and decision making, superior communication skills (speaking, listening, and writing), emotional stability under high stress, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail, multitasking in complex situations, and the ability to maintain respectful working relationships across SRHS and external organizations are required.
Special DemandsMust possess superior customer‑service skills, professional etiquette, and proficiency with computer technology (keyboard skills, telephone, fax, MS Outlook, Word). Must demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
