The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) evaluates specimens for acceptability for proper testing and performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures. The MLT verifies accuracy of results before reporting, reports test results in a timely manner, and performs maintenance and calibration on instruments and equipment as appropriate. The MLT troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimens when problems occur, complying with universal precautions and safety procedures.

The MLT also performs phlebotomy (venipunctures, finger sticks, bleeding times) as needed.

Associate Degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or related scientific discipline required by CLIA.

Registered as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 1 year of job start.

Minimum of one (1) year experience preferred.

The job involves standing, turning, bending, stooping, lifting, climbing, and other physical motions. Must stand for extended periods and walk without undue fatigue. May be exposed to communicable disease or radiation.

Requires keen mental faculties, decision making, strong communication skills, emotional stability to handle high stress, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, attention to detail, and multi‑tasking in complex situations.

Must have superior customer service skills, professional etiquette, proficiency in computer use (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word), travel throughout SRHS service area with own transportation, valid driver license, ability to function independently, adapt to workload demands, set priorities, organize, manage budgets, and understand automated data processing.
