The Chemotherapy RN is a professional nurse who is educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Competency is determined by demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position. The registered nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, the Accreditation Standards, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services.
As such, this performance evaluation is based on these standards.

EducationGraduate from NLN School of Nursing.
LicenseCurrent unrestricted Mississippi State licensure as a Registered Nurse.
CertificationsOncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred;
Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherpy Immunotherapy Certificate Course required at hire or completed within 2 weeksof hire date. All RNs are required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer. RNs working in the below specialty areas are required to complete and maintain certifications as listed:
- Intensive Care Units – ACLS
- Emergency Department – ACLS, PALS, TNCC
- Labor & Delivery – ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
- Nursery – NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
- Medical Nursing – OB/GYN - PALS
- Pediatrics – PALS
- Cath Lab – ACLS
- PACU/Recovery – ACLS, PALS
- Endoscopy – ACLS, PALS
RNs have 12 months, from the date they begin working in the specialty area, to acquire the appropriate certification and 18 months toacquire TNCC certification for the Emergency Department.
Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
ExperienceAppropriate nursing practice/experience within the past five (5) years or evidence of successful refresher program.

Physical DemandsWork is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move aboutthe office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities; subject to exposure of body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry thehazard of infectious disease.
Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard. Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discriminations insound. Work requires close visual and acuity and the ability to adjust theeye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing acomputer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data atclose vision.
Must beable to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue. Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding thatchanges may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for offdays, shifts or weekends.
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information inperson and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHSand other organizations.

Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge andability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word. Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
