The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients to attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Competency is determined by demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position. The RN provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and related standards and guidelines.

This performance evaluation is based on these standards.

Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care utilizing the Nursing Process in accordance with applicable standards and guidelines.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of the department and hospital; participate in quality improvement activities as assigned.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team to ensure safe patient care and optimal outcomes.
  • Document accurately and timely in the patient record.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate from NLN School of Nursing.
  • License: Current unrestricted Mississippi State licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Certifications: All RNs are required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer. RNs in specified specialty areas must maintain certifications as listed (examples include ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP, etc.).
  • Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience, preferred. Experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of a successful refresher program.
  • Special training: De-escalation training completed by the end of the orientation period (90 days) with an appropriate level of de-escalation training.
Reports To / Supervises
  • Reports to: Patient Care Manager
  • Supervises: LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, Unit Technicians
Physical Demands

Work is moderately active and may require movement around the facility. May involve lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects including the human body. Requires exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues with potential infectious disease risk. Repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers; close visual acuity and ability to adjust focus for computer displays and printed materials. Ability to be active for extended periods and to work flexible schedules as needed by the hospital.

& Other Demands

Mental Demands: Must demonstrate keen mental faculties, assessment and decision-making abilities; strong communication skills; emotional stability and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to multi-task in complex situations and maintain collaborative, professional relationships across SRHS and other organizations.
Special Demands: Superior customer service, professional etiquette, computer proficiency (keyboard), and familiarity with MS Outlook and Word; appropriate clinical judgment for patients of all ages.
