Position OverviewThe Licensed Practical Nurse provides skilled technical nursing care to patients according to predefined standards and a plan of care established by a Registered Nurse or Physician. The LPN also assumes other duties as assigned and utilizes the MS Nurse Practice Act, CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and Singing River Hospital System Policies. The performance evaluation is based on these standards.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical nursing care coordinated with RNs and physicians.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
- Maintain compliance with the SRHS Corporate Compliance Program and the MS Nurse Practice Act.
- Execute tasks involving patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, and infection control.
- Collaborate in the planning and execution of patient care plans.
- Report and document patient status according to documentation standards.
- Graduate from an approved school of practical nursing.
- Current Mississippi State licensure; hold LPN license for the expanded role.
- Maintain current BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
- Complete de‑escalation training within 90 days of orientation.
Appropriate nursing practice/experience within the past three (3) years.
Physical Demands- Moderately active; requires sitting, moving within the office and facility, and occasional travel to another SRHS site.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of light objects and patients.
- Repetitive hand and wrist motions, computer keyboard use.
- Exposure to body fluids, sputum, tissues (risk of infection).
- Requires strong visual acuity and sustained attention.
- High level of assessment, decision‑making, communication (verbal and written).
- Emotional stability to handle high stress and urgent situations.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in complex settings.
- Superior customer‑service skills and professional etiquette.
- Computer proficiency (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, telephone, fax).
- Clinical judgment and judgment appropriate for a patient population of all ages.
