OverviewAn externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of a general practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital shares a common mission: to maintain a supportive, excellent medicine environment that delivers exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Responsibilities- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations
- Develop treatment plans and diagnostic protocols
- Provide dental services and observe or assist in surgical procedures
- Manage medical care for patients throughout their treatment course
- Practice and improve communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients
Externship experiences typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
Eligibility & StipendVeterinary students in their clinical year are encouraged to participate in externships at Bienville Animal Medical Center.
