Duties
The individuals selected for these positions will perform a variety of resource and visitor protection duties including but not limited to: enforcement of federal and state laws, vehicle and foot patrol, front country patrol, back country and wilderness patrol, emergency response, emergency medical services, search and rescue, visitor stewardship and orientation, wilderness management, boundary enforcement, protection of natural and cultural resources, and wild land fire suppression.
Requirements- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Subject to pre-employment physical and drug testing.
- Must possess a Type II (seasonal) or higher Law Enforcement Commission.
- Selectee will be required to carry a firearm and maintain proficiency.
- Selectee must be free of domestic violence convictions.
- Must pass Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB) and medical exam.
- Valid driver's license and government vehicle operation.
- Uniform compliance with National Park Service standards.
- Shift work, weekends, holidays, overtime, and willingness to work extended periods outdoors.
- Travel up to 10 nights per month; overnight stays may be required.
- Maintain a government charge card for travel and purchases.
- Age 21 or older.
- Type II (seasonal) or higher NPS Law Enforcement Commission by 01/28/2026.
- Emergency Medical Responder or higher certification by 01/28/2026.
Rigorous fieldwork requiring above‑average physical performance, endurance and superior conditioning. Tasks involve prolonged standing, walking uneven ground, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying items weighing over 50 pounds, and frequently operating in isolated outdoor environments under severe weather conditions.
