Residency requirement:
Mira Costa College Board Policy 7800 requires associate faculty to maintain residency within California within 200 road miles of the district worksite (except fully online assignments). The district may consider temporary waivers for up to 12 consecutive months on a case-by-case basis.

Compensation: $83.03 to $96.25 per hour, based on education. View current salary schedules at the Mira Costa jobs site. Direct deposit is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Required evidence must show degree title, major, and date awarded.:

  • Master’s degree in political science, government, or international relations.
  • OR bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND master’s degree in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, any ethnic studies, J.D., or LL.B.
  • OR a valid appropriate California Community College Credential in the discipline area.
  • OR the equivalent.*

AND have sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds.

Role and Responsibilities

Basic function:
Plan, organize and teach assigned courses in accordance with approved outlines, code requirements, and faculty contract provisions; provide feedback and evaluate student performance; perform related duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize and develop instructional materials; teach using sound pedagogical methods; adjust methods to meet diverse student needs; participate in development and assessment of student learning outcomes; utilize instructional technologies to enhance learning; review and select textbooks/materials.
  • Provide prompt feedback on assignments; evaluate performance; assign grades; maintain records and post grades by deadlines.
  • Be available to students by multiple channels; hold office hours; maintain a flexible schedule; refer students to campus resources as needed.
  • Maintain accurate course records and attendance in district systems; submit records by deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Contribute to collegial environment and collaborate on policy and curriculum development; may substitute for other faculty as needed.
  • Participate in campus life: meetings, committees, and activities aligned with the college goals.
  • Meet professional responsibilities per contractual obligations.
