Tri-City Healthcare District (TCMD) in Oceanside, CA is an equal‑opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We are seeking a Medical Biller/Collector to support our medical billing and collections functions.

Position Summary

The medical biller/collector is responsible for timely submission of claims to insurance companies from a wide variety of medical providers and facilities, monitoring payments, and ensuring that all services are paid promptly. The role serves as an intermediary among health care providers, patients, and insurance companies.

Major Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe, clean working environment, adhering to unit safety and infection control requirements.
  • Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness; obtain missing information.
  • Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances.
  • Use electronic health record (EHR) systems to perform billing duties; maintain accurate, legally compliant medical records.
  • Process claims, apply payments, and credit accounts accordingly.
  • Review insurance payments for accuracy and compliance with contract discounts.
  • Resolve denied or partially paid claims in coordination with relevant parties.
  • Manage assigned account balances, ensuring timely payment and following up on outstanding claims.
  • Communicate with providers, patients, and insurance representatives to clarify billing issues and facilitate payment.
  • Consult supervisors, teammates, and appropriate resources to resolve billing and collection questions.
  • Follow standard operating procedures, policies, and procedures; report compliance issues to Business Office Manager.
  • Prepare reports and forms as directed, following established policies.
  • Complete general administrative duties (answer phones, fax, file confidential documents, use email).
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate as a team member while meeting deadlines and productivity standards.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a health‑care billing environment.
  • Strong customer‑service background.
  • Proficiency in leadership, teamwork, and cooperation.
  • High level of integrity and personal ethics.
  • Understanding of medical/surgical terminology.
  • HIPAA‑compliant, maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Proficient in email, Internet, and payer websites.
  • Experience with billing systems such as GE Centricity or SRS Caretracker (preferred).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to present ideas clearly.
  • Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and able to prioritize tasks in a high‑pressure environment.
  • Analytical skills to interpret complex documents; effective handling of sensitive inquiries.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Associate’s degree in Business Administration (preferred).
Certifications
  • Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) certification (preferred).
Other Requirements
  • All candidates must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen, and pre‑employment background check.
  • Position contingent on successful participation in the TCMC COVID‑19 vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception).
Compensation

Salary/Hourly Wage range based on experience.
