Position: ASSISTANT NURSE MANAGER - ICU

Assistant Nurse Manager - ICU at Tri‑City Medical Center

Position Summary

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) will oversee and positively influence the delivery of optimal, safe, quality nursing care and regulatory compliance while providing leadership to staff by being an effective resource, role model, mentor and change agent. The ANM is responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of the ICU and collaborates with the leadership team on staff performance and adherence to policy and procedures.

Position Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe, clean working environment, ensuring unit‑based safety and infection control requirements are met.
  • Conduct patient and family rounds to ensure service excellence standards are achieved and perform service recovery when needed. Keep Patient Satisfaction Scores above organizational thresholds.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally, providing conflict resolution.
  • Participate in nursing and organizational policy formation and decision‑making, promoting shared accountability for nursing practice and evidence‑based practice.
  • Accept unit/department accountability for services, including meeting performance goals in quality, operations, finance and regulatory compliance.
  • Advocate for patients, coordinate nursing care with other disciplines, and integrate services across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborate with different departments to improve workflow processes and guide patient flow and throughput.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel.
  • Assess ethical issues related to health care and respect patient rights and preferences, planning care to ensure standards are followed.
  • Assume responsibility for staffing and unit schedules, submit to the manager for approval, and align assignments with scope of practice, competencies and patient needs.
  • Coordinate, facilitate or participate in departmental quality projects and attend committee meetings.
  • Evaluate performance of personnel and new staff, provide timely feedback, coaching, and conduct performance appraisals as required.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of the budget, meeting productivity standards in the area of responsibility.
  • Advocate for a work environment that minimizes work‑related illness and injury.
  • Take personal accountability for professional growth and development.
  • Pronounce the expired patient.
  • Be knowledgeable of the Administrative Supervisor role and capable of performing it if required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum five (5) years of RN experience, with at least two (2) years acute‑care experience in an area of responsibility.
  • Minimum one (1) year of recent Charge Nurse or other management/supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of staff scope of practice, nursing process application and individualized care planning.
  • Ability to seek out resources independently and collaborate effectively.
  • Assessment skills for acute and chronically ill patients and their families.
  • Proficiency with computers and willingness to learn new software.
  • Ability to provide patient care.
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; or Associate Degree, Nursing (ADN) with seven (7) years RN experience may be considered.
Licenses
  • Current California RN licensure required.
Certifications
  • Current BLS (American Heart Association) required for all departments.
  • National certification in area of expertise preferred.
  • Required certifications for the ICU: ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale.
  • Preferred certifications: MICN.
Additional Required Certifications
  • ICU ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale
  • Telemetry ACLS & NIH Stroke Scale
  • Emergency Department ACLS, PALS, NIH Stroke Scale; NVCI within 90 days of hire.
  • Cardiac Cath Lab ACLS
  • Interventional Radiology ACLS
  • MICN, preferred

All new hires must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre‑employment background checks before starting work.

Salary/Hourly wage range is posted externally; actual pay will be based on verified experience and internal equity.
