Senior Science Laboratory Associate - Chemistry

Join to apply for the Senior Science Laboratory Associate - Chemistry role at Inside Higher Ed.

One regular, full-time, extended-day position, 40 hours per week, 11 months spread over 12 months per year on the Oceanside Campus and San Elijo Campus. The regular schedule will include workdays Monday through Saturday and will primarily involve evening hours, in coordination with full-time lab staff. The position may also require work at any district location or authorized facility, including evenings and weekends as needed.

This is an “extended-day” position with potential variability in daily work hours. Overtime compensation may not apply for hours exceeding eight (8) in a single day; however, hours worked beyond forty (40) in a standard workweek shall be compensated on an overtime basis. The person selected for this position will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation.

  • First-level interviews with the screening and interview committee will be conducted in person, followed by second-level, in-person interviews with the final interviewers.
Residency Requirement
  • Mira Costa College Board Policy 7800:
Employee Residency requires all classified staff, administrators, and temporary/hourly short-term employees to maintain and permanently reside in a principal place of residence in the state of California that is within two hundred (200) road miles from the employee’s regularly assigned district worksite.
  • The District may consider an individual’s request to temporarily reside outside the State of California or beyond the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, provided it does not exceed 12 consecutive months.
Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, lead and participate in the work of other Science Laboratory Technicians and student assistants engaged in preparing laboratory equipment, materials and supplies to support student learning in assigned science laboratories.
  • Coordinate and manage multiple science laboratories in different building and campus locations.
  • Prepare and track laboratory budgets and prepare purchase requisitions.
  • Provide assistance to instructors in developing laboratory demonstrations and experiments.
  • Work with faculty in preparing demonstrations, modifying lab activities and developing new experiments to support classroom learning.
Compensation

Compensation:
The annual salary is based on the Mira Costa College 2025–2026 classified salary schedule, Range 26, Step 1 ($84,053). Because this position is an 11-month position spread over 12 months, the salary will be prorated and will be less than the full-time annual amount. Monthly pay will vary based on the number of hours worked each month.
