Oceanside Library is seeking a Head of Youth Services who brings passion, vision, and ingenuity to lead a
talented team in delivering groundbreaking programs and services for children, teens, and families. This full-time position includes evenings and weekends.
Duties include, but not limited to:
Responsibilities- Provide excellent customer service and hospitality to patrons of all ages.
- Implement and promote new services.
- Supervise staff and prepare staff schedules.
- Enforce library policies while fostering positive relationships with children, teens, and families.
- Budgeting.
- Prepare department and statistical reports.
- Oversee the ordering and maintenance of all print, electronic, and AV materials.
- Oversee the coordination of school visits and outreach.
- Analyze circulation and usage stats to ensure the collection is relevant, diverse, and responsive to community interests.
- Create and present programs, on and offsite.
- Work collaboratively with Department Heads and the Programming Department on Library-wide events.
- Collaborate with local community groups/organizations and participate in community events.
- Collaborate with schools and other community organizations.
- Oversee the Annual Summer Reading Club and volunteers.
- Reader’s Advisory and Youth Services desk duties in both the Children’s Room and the Beacon (Teen Room).
- Promote and assist patrons with the Library’s digital collection.
- Attend workshops and training sessions at the request of the Library Director or Assistant Director.
- Other projects and tasks as assigned.
- MLS degree from an ALA accredited college or university.
- Previous supervisory and scheduling experience is preferred, but not required.
- Strong computer and tech skills.
- Excellent written, oral, and communication skills.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability and willingness to learn new emerging technologies and services.
- Ability to work on an individual basis and in a team environment – cooperatively and collaboratively.
- Experience with Sierra and Vega is a plus.
$80,000 – $90,000 per year
