Bus Assistant – No Exp Needed – Training Provided

Durham School Services is hiring a Bus Assistant to support safe and reliable student transportation. Training will be provided; no prior experience is required.

• Assist students in safely entering and exiting the bus.
• Seat students using seat belts, car seats, or wheel‑chair restraints as needed.
• Monitor passengers to ensure safety regulations and student conduct rules are followed.
• Communicate child behavior management, discipline per company policy, and maintain discipline.
• Document and report any violations or conduct concerns to appropriate authority.
• Physically assist passengers in vehicle evacuation during emergencies.
• Ensure students leave with belongings, keep the vehicle interior clean and presentable.
• Complete all required paperwork and submit in a timely manner.
• Present a neat, professional appearance and arrive on time.
• Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in‑service meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• At least 18 years of age (19 for New York school bus assistants).
• Meet physical and medical requirements.
• Successfully complete all training and attend safety meetings and in‑service meetings.
• High attention to detail and dexterity to safely use restraints and secure wheelchairs.
• Ability to relate to and work well with children.
• Effective pupil behavior management skills.
• Professionalism and diplomacy skills when working with students, employees, parents, and district personnel.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.

$22.45 per hour.
