SummaryThis position applies corrosion knowledge and skills to repair, install, troubleshoot, analyze, and perform other predictive and preventive maintenance tasks on assigned equipment, facilities, systems, and associated devices in gas and liquid facilities and pipelines.
Responsibilities- Under general direction, design, install, operate, inspect, and maintain cathodic protection systems within assigned pipeline segments, compressor stations, or plant facilities while complying with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain working knowledge of regulatory requirements, perform associated tasks, and complete required documentation (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.).
- Investigate and analyze corrosive conditions for existing and proposed facilities.
- Manage corrosion control and compliance for cathodically protected pipelines, compressor stations, plant facilities, and other buried, submerged, or above‑ground structures.
- Proactively conduct pipe‑to‑soil potential surveys, casing‑to‑soil readings, rectifier and bond readings, current flows on pipeline, and foreign pipe‑to‑soil readings, documenting results in the corrosion database or other forms per SOPs or regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate protective coating conditions (internal, external, atmospheric) and perform repairs, evaluate pipe anomalies, and calculate remaining strength per established procedures.
- Understand pipeline internal corrosion mechanisms and mitigation measures, including treatment, testing, sample collection, bacteria analysis, pH, dissolved H₂S, and CO₂ testing, and perform chemical requirement calculations.
- Design cathodic protection systems, including current requirement calculations and soil resistivity testing.
- Generate and maintain reports covering rectifiers, bonds, pipeline isolation, and annual corrosion control reports.
- Install, maintain, and repair rectifiers, anode systems, cables, bonds, test stations, and perform ground bed efficiency calculations.
- Assess impacts of stray currents from traction systems, coal mines, AC transmission lines, etc., and mitigate their effects on Energy Transfer facilities.
- Read and interpret pipeline maps, as‑builts, and PLDs.
- Use and operate all pertinent safety equipment in hazardous areas (arc‑flash PPE, respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, etc.).
- Adhere to partnership SOPs, industry standards, engineering drawings, and sketches, displaying workmanship consistent with safety policies.
- Maintain facilities, grounds, and work areas in a safe, orderly, and functional manner.
- Communicate with other technicians to coordinate repairs when applicable.
- Train others in job tasks and qualify skill levels per partnership requirements.
- Participate in PHMSA or state regulatory audits.
- Engage in partnership safety programs and initiatives.
- Inspect crew welds for surface pitting discovered during corrosion activities.
- Comply with partnership safety policies and procedures.
- Perform energy isolation lockout/tagout procedures (LOTO).
- High school diploma or GED.
- Level C: 0–2 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience.
- Level B: 2–4 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience.
- Level A: 4+ years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience.
- Valid driver’s license in state of residency.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- Ability to train other technicians and sign off on qualifications.
