Administers medically prescribed physical therapy programs and treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of body part. Directs and supervises employees of the department in the assigned work areas and participates in interdisciplinary care within the department and the hospital.

None - Interrelationships:
Works closely with physicians and nurses; constant contact with patients and families, and other departmental and hospital employees.
- Plans Physical Therapy programs for each patient through evaluation and assessment of patient needs, as prescribed by physicians.
- Has the authority to recommend disciplinary action pertaining to employees supervised.
- Complies with the standards set forth in the Texas physical therapy practice act.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the department's management staff.
- As patient care and/or hospital need dictates, both the assigned shift and work station may be changed by the department.

- Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Administers medically prescribed physical therapy programs and treatments.
- Evaluates, plans, and coordinates treatments for patients in assigned areas.
- Directs and supervises activities of assistants and aides in assigned areas, and sees that all maintain high standards of professionalism.
- Participates in educational and training programs for necessary personnel.
- Prepares work assignments for personnel in assigned areas.
- Completes medical documentation in an accurate and timely manner, consistent with rules and regulations.
- Attends hospital meetings and committee work as assigned.
- Participates in rotating to necessary areas, including but not limited to outpatient, wound care, rehab, acute care, and long-term acute care, to provide treatment coverage to patients where needed.
- Implements appropriate care to the following age groups:
Neonates, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric. - Demonstrates independence in performing daily duties and does so in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates proficiency in Physical Therapy techniques, and is responsible for self-growth and learning.
- Demonstrates ability to plan and coordinate treatment area for self and those supervised.
- Demonstrates skills in decision making for interacting with patients, family members, peers, physicians, and hospital staff.
- Demonstrates good supervisory skills.
- Role model – reflects professional attitude and work ethics through attendance, appearance, and behavior.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively; follows appropriate channels of communication.
- Education:
Current Texas licensure or eligibility as a Physical Therapist. Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association within 90 days of hire. - Job Knowledge:
Knowledge of procedures involved in physical therapy with emphasis on human anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. Must have understanding of basic supervisory principles.
