Lead Phlebotomist – Evening Shift

Odessa Regional Medical Center

Evening Shift: 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., weekends as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Perform venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently in hospital and laboratory environments.
  • Assist technical staff as needed to maintain process flow.
  • Verify accuracy of specimen and patient identifiers, ensure correct tube type for each test.
  • Set up waived testing, record results, and report normal interfaced results.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain benches and work areas.
  • Help with inventory and phlebotomy supply ordering.
  • Inspect and receive new supplies and reagents, rotating old stock to front and stocking as items arrive.
  • Use lab experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks; self‑sufficient and a critical thinker.
  • Perform a variety of tasks as required.
  • Lead and direct the work of other phlebotomy staff.
  • Train new hires and retrain staff on work improvement.
  • Strictly adhere to SOPs to prevent patient‑care incidents.
  • Report to a lab supervisor, manager, or director of lab.
Qualifications
  • Phlebotomy certification required.
  • 2+ years of experience in an acute‑care setting or related area.
  • Under direct Lab Technician supervision, perform specified lab tests in microbiology (plating), hematology, and urinalysis (specimen uploading).
  • Participate in performance‑improvement activities.
  • Provide service to patients ranging from infants to geriatric.
  • Other duties as assigned.
