Program

Purpose:

Residents will encounter preceptors and mentors with extensive pharmacy experience, willingness to teach, and a dedication to the advancement of clinical knowledge. In addition to supportive and knowledgeable pharmacy staff members, Medical Center Health System also offers an environment with a strong focus on education and professional development through collaboration with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

The purpose of the ASHP-accredited Medical Center Hospital Post-Graduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.

D.) education and to further develop clinical skills of the residents. At the end of the 12-month program, the residents will be eligible for board certification, postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training, or pursue a job in the area of their interest in pharmaceutical care.

As a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team, residents will be responsible for providing direct patient care to wide array of patient population and accountable for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes. They will have the opportunity to serve the underserved population in the surrounding counties. The residency program will also allow them to foster their skills in educating health care professionals, patients, and the community on medication related topics.

Residents will solve practice-related problems in a time sensitive manner through critical thinking skills. Residents will demonstrate professional maturity by following a personal philosophy of practice, monitoring their own performance, exhibiting commitment to the profession and exercising leadership in improving the safety of the medication use system. This will allow the residents to possess the knowledge and leadership skills to advance the practice and profession of pharmacy.

Duration: 12 months

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • Hold a Pharm

    D degree from and ACPE-accredited program
  • Be licensed or eligible for licensure in Texas
  • Participated it the ASHP Residency Matching Program
