• Sorting Room Responsibilities (50%) Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc., according to category and condition; selects items suitable for store display and routes them for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items per established procedures.
• Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures; hangs clothes on hangers and places them on clothes racks.
• Packs items in boxes and marks boxes accordingly; assists in transporting boxes to the appropriate storage area; lifts and carries items to destinations for further processing, storage or display in store.
• Prepares non-suitable clothes for the baler.

• Sorting Room Orderliness and Cleanliness Responsibilities (50%) Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables and work areas.
• Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure items are neat and orderly; rotates/rearranges stock as directed; returns items to proper locations after customers have handled them.
• Cleans all display racks and shelves; sweeps and mops floors; cleans windows and mirrors; ensures the store remains clean and inviting.

• Inspects donated items to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures.
• Assists customers in carrying purchased/donated items in/out of the store.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.
• Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
• Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
• One year experience working in a warehouse preferred
• Or any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Certifications: None.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English effectively.
• Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
• Duties are usually performed standing; standing may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.
• Moderate physical effort required: sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying light to heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.).

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed in a normal warehouse environment with potential discomforts related to weather, noise, dust, and dirt.
