Overview

The Floor Hand position is part of a 4-5 person Plug & Abandonment (P&A) rig crew on a well service rig, responsible for performing services on oil and gas wells requested by Axis Energy Services customers. The primary responsibilities include assisting in rigging up and rigging down, pulling and laying down rods, tubing and casing, and other functions designated by the Rig Supervisor or other designated individual.

All duties are performed to maximize crew safety while meeting customer expectations. Preference to qualified local job seekers within 60 miles of Axis Odessa, TX facility.

Responsibilities
  • Reports to the assigned Work-over Rig Supervisor.
  • Assists the operator in rigging up and down, and in lining up the well service rig with the well.
  • Sets hydraulic jacks, handles pads/boards, and assists in attaching guy wires to the anchor.
  • Operates rod wrenches, tongs, elevators and other rig tools and equipment during well servicing operations.
  • Assists in picking up or laying down tubing, manually lifting tubing from the rack onto the work floor or vice versa.
  • Maintains tubing, rod tongs and hand tools on the rig.
  • Dismantles and repairs oil field machinery using hand tools and power tools.
  • Cleans up spills.
  • Keeps pipe deck and main deck areas orderly.
  • Reports any safety hazards, incidents, or maintenance issues to the Rig Supervisor.
  • Ensures work is in compliance with company policies, procedures and safety regulations.
  • Climbs ladders and stairs as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Works with long periods of standing and sitting and may work long hours if necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or the equivalent.
  • Valid state driver license with acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR); CDL Class A or B preferred.
  • Basic oilfield well servicing experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year rig floor operation experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing in English.
  • Ability to work a varied rotational schedule and travel as required.
  • Work may be performed in all weather conditions.
  • Mobility to enter confined spaces and access areas via ladders or other devices; ability to bend, stoop, twist, stand, squat, crawl and walk.
  • Ability to interact in a team environment and work in a fast-paced setting handling multiple tasks.
  • Basic problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Reliable telephone (cell phone) communication and transportation.
  • Able to clear pre-employment drug/alcohol and job-relevant screens.
