Department: Parks & Recreation Reports to: Designated Supervisor
SummaryUnder basic supervision, performs semi‑skilled general labor work in repair and fabrication of structures in City parks for the Parks and Recreation Department (PRD); operates vehicles, equipment, and tools in compliance with all safety regulations and standard procedures.
Essential Functions- Performs general labor tasks to maintain, repair and construct safe, attractive, and user-friendly City park facilities; inspects facilities and equipment; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Performs park repair and fabrication tasks including carpentry, welding, and concrete; builds and repairs park facilities, structures, and components; estimates material requirements for projects; assists with setup and takedown for special events; maintains and operates tools and equipment according to PRD standards.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
- Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work‑related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High school diploma or GED required. General maintenance, construction, or welding experience desired.
Knowledge Of- PRD safety policies and procedures, and federal and state building codes and safety regulations.
- Materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in parks maintenance.
- Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Reading blueprints, and following standard operating and safety procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co‑workers.
A valid Texas State Driver's License is required.
Physical Demands and Working EnvironmentWork is performed indoors, outdoors, and at City facilities; requires constant physical effort and the ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment. City‑approved safety shoes must be worn.
Salary$19.13 per hour
