This casual/on‑call part‑time truck driving job is perfect for licensed CDL Class B or CDL Class A drivers seeking supplemental income and looking to work anywhere from 0 to 25 hours a week, based on business needs. Availability for morning and afternoon hours during the week is required.
Penske Truck Leasing seeks highly motivated and qualified applicants for the unique position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This role involves vehicle delivery and returning vehicles to Penske locations and Penske customers. Primarily, the position moves our box trucks up to 26’ and, for CDL Class A holders, tractors and trailers. The role may also provide assistance to the service department delivering parts and equipment.
MajorResponsibilities
- Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to destination of Penske location or customer locations
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; report issues to location manager
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
- Complete other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
- 2 years of driving experience required
- 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record required
- Valid Class B CDL required; applicants must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in their state of residence
- CDL Class A license preferred
- Ability to read and follow written instructions is required.
- Ability to work independently, customer service skills, organizational skills, and a positive attitude are required
- English language proficiency is required to comply with federal law (49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2)).
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
- Role requires a current driver qualification file as mandated by DOT regulations, including annual MVR check, DOT Physical, Safety Performance History records, and a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start; subject to FMCSA Clearinghouse review.
- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (past employment, education, criminal history) and drug screening are required.
- The associate must be able to see and hear; required vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjustment of focus.
- Must move frequently, stand, walk, sit, and use hands to touch, handle, and feel; reach with arms; regularly lift or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and occasionally up to 100 lbs (45 kg).
- Must legally operate a motor vehicle and safely enter/exit the vehicle and its rear cargo area.
- Assumes responsibility for own safety and the safety of others, maintaining a constant state of alertness and safe conduct.
