Job Summary

The Tourism & Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in strengthening O’Fallon’s visibility as a premier regional destination by promoting tourism, recreational tourism, and community pride. This position develops, coordinates, and implements strategies that attract visitors, enhance the local economy, and highlight O’Fallon’s diverse offerings, including parks and trails, sports facilities, events, historic attractions, community amenities, and hospitality assets. The coordinator actively promotes O’Fallon as a welcoming vibrant community.

Working collaboratively with City leadership, and regional partners, the Coordinator elevates O’Fallon’s presence in tourism markets, enhances the visitor experience, and supports initiatives that generate increased visitation and hotel activity. In addition to tourism development, the Coordinator fosters strong community engagement by building relationships with residents, local organizations, and businesses; supporting City events; and implementing effective communication strategies. The position ensures that outreach efforts are inclusive, accessible, and aligned with the City’s goals to strengthen civic participation and enhance the overall quality of life in O’Fallon.

The starting salary range for this position is $70,000-$75,000 annually. This position primarily follows standard business hours, Monday–Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends required to support events and activities.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities Tourism Development & Promotion
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive tourism marketing strategy to promote O’Fallon’s attractions, parks and trails, sports venues, events, local businesses, and hospitality amenities.
  • Coordinate tourism campaigns, including digital marketing, print materials, video content series, visitor guides, media outreach, and partnerships with local and regional tourism organizations.
  • Serve as a liaison to hotels, local businesses, sports organizations, and hospitality partners to enhance visitor experience and support economic impact initiatives.
  • Maintain and expand tourism-related content on the City’s platforms, including events calendars, tourism website pages, maps, and promotional and visitor resources.
  • Identify and promote opportunities for sports tourism, conferences, tournaments, group travel, heritage and cultural tourism, and regional promotional initiatives.
Community Engagement & Public Outreach
  • Develop and execute a city-wide community engagement plan to increase resident involvement and participation in the City’s public programs and initiatives to strengthen community identity.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with neighborhood groups, nonprofits, schools, business owners, and civic organizations.
  • Coordinate public input processes, surveys, outreach sessions, and engagement activities to collect community feedback and identify needs.
  • Attend and support City-sponsored events, community festivals, ribbon cuttings, and partner-hosted events to increase City visibility.
Strategic Communications
  • Produce clear, accessible, and engaging communications to residents, visitors, media outlets, and regional stakeholders.
  • Create and manage promotional and communication materials—from concept to delivery—across digital, video, print, and social channels.
  • Manage social media presence, including content creation, scheduling, monitoring, and analytics reporting to track engagement and recommend improvements.
