Job Summary:

Cost Accountant / General Ledger Accountant is needed to support key accounting and financial reporting activities within a manufacturing environment. This individual will play an important role in analyzing product and production costs, maintaining accurate cost and general ledger data, supporting inventory accounting, performing account reconciliations, and assisting with the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.

The ideal candidate will have strong manufacturing accounting experience, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with Accounting, Finance, Operations, and other departments. This role is well suited for an accounting professional who enjoys understanding the details behind financial results and using that information to help improve business performance.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Analyze manufacturing costs, inventory activity, production variances, and other cost drivers to support accurate financial reporting.

Maintain and review product costing, standard costs, bills of materials, and related cost accounting records.

Monitor and analyze material, labor, overhead, and manufacturing variances; identify trends and investigate significant fluctuations.

Assist with the development, maintenance, and review of product costing and standard cost updates.

Support inventory accounting, including inventory reconciliations, adjustments, reserves, and valuation.

Partner with Operations and other cross-functional teams to understand production costs and identify opportunities for improved cost control and operational efficiency.

Provide financial analysis and reporting to support management decision-making.

Support budgeting and forecasting efforts by providing cost and operational analysis.

Assist with the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.

Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclassifications, inventory-related entries, and other routine accounting transactions.

Perform monthly general ledger account reconciliations and research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

Review financial activity for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting policies.

Assist with preparation and analysis of financial statements and management reports.

Maintain accurate supporting documentation for account balances and financial transactions.

Assist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other general ledger activities as needed.

Support compliance with company accounting policies, internal controls, and financial procedures.

Assist with internal and external audit requests and provide supporting documentation as needed.

Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and efficiency.

Help ensure financial data is complete, accurate, and properly supported within the ERP and related systems.

Develop effective working relationships with Accounting, Finance, Operations, Purchasing, Inventory, and other departments.

Work with operational teams to investigate cost variances and understand the financial impact of production and inventory activity.

Communicate financial findings clearly to both accounting and non-accounting personnel.

Required Skills/Abilities:3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including direct cost accounting responsibility.

Prior manufacturing accounting experience required.
