A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for an Early Contract Applicant Only - Special Education Teacher. This position is for 8 hours per day, 9 months per year.
Only those who were offered an Early Contract by Director may apply.
Job Description:
Under the direction of the school principal, following the guidelines of USBE, the teacher is responsible for the education of students with special needs and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements Individualized Education Plans and behavior plans.
- Implements data collection systems, accurately collects and summarizes data.
- Monitors, redirects and modifies student progress regarding inappropriate behaviors and performance, administering intensive behavior intervention programs to identified students.
- Teaches subject matter, utilizing the course of study adopted by the school district and the Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities.
- Develops lesson plans, adapts curriculum to meet individual student needs, and utilizes effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences.
- Engages students in learning through use of content activities and assignments, student groupings, a wide variety of instructional materials, and the structure and pacing of the lessons.
- Provides specific and timely feedback to students.
- Evaluates student's academic and personal growth keeping appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Utilizes Least Restrictive Behavior Interventions (LRBI) to support skill development in students.
- Understands various functions of behavior when determining interventions, developing and implementing behavior intervention plans.
- Models and trains program staff on the implementation of specific programs and procedures to address student goals.
- Collaborates with school team members to provide instruction and support effectively.
- Utilizes computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
- Maintains classroom organization and discipline.
- Provides and maintains a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and the school grounds.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means discussing academic and personal progress; interprets school programs.
- Supervises and directs paraprofessionals for the benefit of student learning.
- Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed.
- Manages student files to maintain compliance based on district, USBE, and IDEA guidelines and regulations.
- Demonstrates professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
- Conforms to district policies including attendance, absences and evaluations.
- Possesses problem-solving skills and demonstrates effective communication skills.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, school staff, district staff, and patrons.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal or district office administration.
- Regular work attendance is critical.
Qualifications:
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time.
- Utilize quick body movements to maintain safety and implement student behavior plans.
- Participate in and utilize Mandt training.
- May require working with bio-hazards (blood borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.).
Degree and License Requirements:
- Valid Utah Special Education K-12 license (mild/moderate or severe).
