A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for a Social Emotional Learner (SEL) Special Education Para educator. This position is for
5.75 hours per day, 182 days (9 months) per year, is compensated according to Lane 4(B) of the Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule, and is eligible for retirement benefits.

Job Description- This position assists a certificated teacher and/or related service staff in instructional and non-instructional activities for students who have significant behavioral disabilities. This position develops, implements, and monitors intervention for students, develops and implements classroom supports, and models techniques for staff in teaching positive student behavior.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to, engaging in the following activities with support and direction:
- Utilize safe and appropriate procedures when managing students with challenging behavior
- Interpret and implement written behavior plans,
- Utilize and model the implementation of positive behavior supports with students
- Observes, collects data, and analyzes existing classroom conditions in order to assist with behavior plan strategies and implementation.
- Collect data regarding student behaviors and recommend appropriate instructional modifications to develop responsible thinking and decision-making skills in students.
- Collaborates with school team members to provide instruction and support effectively, and without disruption to the environment or other individuals in the environment
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with multiple school teams
- Assists in maintaining students' files/records for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing reliable information.
- Monitors individual students in classrooms, school and community, etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; displaying tact and courtesy; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; being attentive to detail; and working with detailed information/data.
- Relate to special needs students in a positive and confident manner
- Supports students, including providing instruction, in a variety of settings - special education classroom, general education classroom, one-on-one, etc.
- Provides accommodations for students, such as reading tests aloud, scribe, alternate location for assessments, check-in/check-out support, etc.
- Supports classroom teacher in collecting data.
- Monitor student behavior and make quick, effective decisions
- Remain calm in crisis situations
- Drives students in district vehicles for the purpose of providing transportation to/from school and other locations
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality
- Comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures
- Duties as otherwise assigned by the building administrator or special education for the benefit of students
- Regular attendance at work is critical.
Basic
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time
- Must be able to move from sitting on floor to standing position repeatedly
- Safely manage physical or verbally aggressive students.
- Participate with students in physical fitness activities including walking, stretching, and aerobic exercise.
- Remain calm and follow safety procedures in emergency situations.
- Must be able to utilize quick body movements to maintain safety and implement student behavior plans
- Must be able to drive district vehicles to transportation students various school settings as applicable
- Must be willing to participate in and utilize Mandttraining.
- May require working with bio-hazards (blood borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.)
- Participate in required school and district training (e.g. van certification)
- Previous job-related experience preferred.
