Site Safety and Health Officer

Job Title: HHI Campus Safety Officer

Region: Ogden, Utah

Reporting To: Corporate Safety Director and Manufacturing Superintendent

Responsible For: Overseeing the safety of employees and equipment on the HHI Corporation main campus to include manufacturing, maintenance, shipping/receiving, and main office. Also responsible for ensuring project management and required administrative reports are completed per Federal, State, and HHI Corporation standards.

Job Purpose: To ensure safety on site and compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and company safety policies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct campus walks and inspections to identify and rectify hazards or safety violations.
  • Ensure required safety inspections are completed to include, but not limited to: fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, first aid kits, and AEDs.
  • Create and enforce safety plans outlining the scope and mandated requirements while operating on the campus.
  • Be the safety representative on campus while
    -working with leads and managers to ensure a safe working environment for all projects taking place on the campus.
  • Relay on site conditions and concerns to the corporate safety office.
  • Teach or facilitate training in various areas that are required to ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and federal requirements.
  • Conduct mishap investigations and reporting procedures to HHI corporate safety office.
  • Prepare and report any plans or required safety documentation.
  • Be able to research, interpret, and implement various regulations and requirements.
  • Can identify hazards and find innovative solutions while not negatively impacting operations.
  • Lead on-site job training as needed and hold daily Activity Hazard Analysis meetings.
  • Know and understand the OSHA 1910 regulations and other requirements that affect manufacturing, maintenance, and shipping/receiving.
  • Oversee Hazcom program to ensure compliance and safe use/disposal of hazardous material.
  • While safety will be the primary focus, when not conducting safety tasks or if the need arises, other tasks could be given to include assistance with shipping/receiving, maintenance, or manufacturing.
  • In the rare event of staffing shortage, you may be asked to help with covering and/or assisting with construction jobsites until the shortage is corrected.
  • Key Working Relationships

    Must be able to work with government and non-government personnel in a professional and clear manner. Be able to work with different trades to ensure a safe environment without limiting the trades ability to complete work. Must have a working knowledge and understanding in either manufacturing, shipping and receiving, or vehicle/equipment maintenance. Must be able to properly communicate over the phone and in writing to upper management to include Subcontractors, Suppliers, Onsite Staff, Owners, PM’s, Superintendents, and Corporate Safety Officer.

    Be able to solve unique safety situations and find acceptable solutions to ensure the safety of people, equipment, and facilities.

    Qualifications
    • OSHA 30 (or be able to complete within 1 month of hiring)
    • Knowledge in the following areas: HAZCOM, Fall Protection, overhead crane, DOT safety requirements, and HEC
    • Computer skills in Microsoft Office and online databases
    • Must pass pre-employment drug screen test if hired
    • Good driving record, valid license - insurable through the company
    • Be able to stand for several hours at a time
    • Not afraid of heights
    • Be able to work both indoors and outdoors
    • Can clearly communicate in person, written, and electronically
    • Minimum 2 years of safety experience
    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
    Preferred
    • HAZWOPER 40-hour course
    • Various safety competent persons certifications (Fall Protection, Excavation, etc.)
    • Experience working with manufacturing, equipment maintenance, or shipping/Receiving
