Military Veteran Opportunity - Senior Mechanical Engineer
Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure.

In this role, you will prepare design and procurement documents for the Sentinel Project. This position has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating the design as it pertains to chilled water systems and unique requirement driven equipment.
Major Responsibilities:- Prepare and check design and procurement documents including but not limited to P&IDs, supporting calculations, data sheets, engineering specifications, and material requisitions.
- Prepare specifications and data sheets for unique, requirement driven equipment, perform as the technical representative for the associated purchase order or subcontract, review vendor submittals, and manage the selected supplier’s technical performance.
- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria to support engineering design decisions.
- Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups.
- Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
- Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards.
- Assists project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
- Prepares mechanical engineering reports for clients as required.
- Mentors and assists more junior mechanical team members.
- Completes mechanical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
- Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
- Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Mechanical (or related) Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience.
- Must have completed a minimum of 4 years of active-duty military service in the United States Armed Forces, with an honorable discharge.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
- U.S. Professional Engineering License in Mechanical Engineering (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
Skills:
- Experience in Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&) development, chilled water system design, pipe sizing calculations, and equipment specification and procurement development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.
- Experience with developing custom equipment packages, including skid mounted systems and specialty items, such as security doors.
- Experience working on DOD government projects and with the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs).
- Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME NQA-1, or AS9100D.
- U.S. Professional Engineering License in Mechanical Engineering (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug and background check, which includes verification of employment and education.
- Possess active security clearance or the ability to obtain security clearance.
