Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel’s scope of service in Sentinel’s current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.

This position, located in Ogden, UT, is for a Smart Plant 3D Designer who will prepare electrical 3D designs as well as 2D electrical AutoCAD and Smart Sketch designs to support new facility infrastructure design for DOD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem‑solving abilities, a can‑do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.

• Model electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, conduit, conduit duct bank, lighting, receptacles, etc. in a Smart Plant 3D model environment.
• Create bill of materials and drawing installation details, including grounding, lightning protection, support details, and other details using Smart Sketch and AutoCAD.
• Perform calculations utilizing AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts.
• Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, such as input, interference reconciliation, etc., with other physical related disciplines.
• Support production for physical design implementation by producing drawings of interior and exterior layouts/plans/elevation views of the raceway design (conduit/cable tray/duct bank), equipment location and layout, lighting layouts, lightning protection layouts, and grounding plans.
• Develop material specifications utilizing the software Specs Intact.
• Coordinate with Systems Engineering to establish and verify design/project requirements.
• Perform independent creative design with direction, ensuring electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.

• Requires an AA/AS or Certificate of Engineering/CAD with 1–2 years of experience or 4–5 years of relevant work experience.

• Knowledge and application of NEC code and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE Standards.
• Experience with an electronic Cable Management System such as SETROUTE, including input and corrections to the database.
• Ability to collaborate well with other disciplines.
• Ability to manage conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
• Relevant experience with electrical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building electrical systems.
• Hands‑on and advanced experience using Smart Plant 3D, Smart Sketch, and AutoCAD.
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.
• Broad knowledge of electrical engineering design principles.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and layouts.
• Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
• Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
• Ability to express technical issues clearly and concisely, both written and verbally.
• Ability to resolve design issues independently and collaboratively with other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
• Modeling of piping, HVAC, and mechanical equipment in a Smart Plant 3D model environment.
• Previous DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA project experience; experience with ISO‑9000 quality assurance programs.
