Overview

Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman Sentinel Program. This position is for an Electrical Designer who will use electrical Smart Plant 3D to develop construction drawings using Smart Sketch and AutoCAD for the DOD Sentinel project sites. The role also involves the direct production of calculations and equipment/commodity specifications for Bechtel’s work scope.

Major responsibilities and project context include supporting design development of electrical systems for the GBSD program project, modeling in a 3D Revit environment, and coordinating with engineers and other disciplines to ensure alignment with procedures, codes, and contract requirements.

Major Responsibilities
  • Work under the direction of senior engineers/designers to develop design products.
  • Review client requirements and incorporate them into design products.
  • Assist in modeling equipment and commodities used in electrical design.
  • Extract applicable 3D model data onto 2D sheets, annotate accurately, and prepare drawings for construction use.
  • Coordinate reviews of deliverables among the client and other engineering disciplines; review and resolve comments/feedback.
  • Perform model reviews and resolve clashes with other commodities/disciplines.
  • Ensure electrical systems designs comply with applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards (e.g., NFPA 70).
  • Assist in developing electrical designs (grounding systems, bills of materials, cable routing, etc.).
  • Review and check design deliverables for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality, and satisfactory completion.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and coordinate with designers in other disciplines on overall design and technical requirements.
  • Travel to project locations as required.

This role supports design development of electrical systems and equipment for the GBSD program by preparing models, drawings, and evaluations in accordance with procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. The candidate will work with electrical engineers and other technical disciplines in a team environment, including modeling electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, and conduit in 3D Revit; input and coordinate 3D model activities with other disciplines;

and contribute to raceway design, equipment location, lighting, grounding layouts/calculations, and lightning protection systems. Travel to project locations is required as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Level I
    • Requires AA/AS degree or certificate in Engineering/CAD with 1-2 years of experience or 4-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Level II
    • Requires AA/AS degree or certificate in Engineering/CAD with 3-4 years of experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to collaborate well with other disciplines and manage conflicting deadlines, interruptions, and multiple tasks.
  • Experience with drawings for electrical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial facilities, data centers, or complex building electrical systems.
  • Hands-on experience using 3D modeling software with architectural interface, drawing generation, view templates, design options, and phasing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with engineering and office automation tools; ability to convey technical issues clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to resolve design issues independently and collaboratively with other disciplines, construction, and the client.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check and be able to obtain a security clearance.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • Possess active security clearance.
  • Prior experience with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
