Engineering Automation Professional at Bechtel.
Job SummaryThe Smart 3D Administrator applies engineering software management and support expertise to a broad range of engineering computer-aided design and computer-aided engineering software that supports engineering work processes.
Major Responsibilities- Configure and maintain S3D software settings, user roles, permissions, admin parameters, configuration files, and content libraries.
- Create new projects and “copy code” standard designs for field replication.
- Translate coordinate systems between multiple applications.
- Manage and troubleshoot software issues, including updates, patches, and license inventory.
- Develop and enforce best practices for S3D usage, data standards, and workflows.
- Collaborate with IT teams for server maintenance, data backups, and system integrations.
- Apply knowledge of 2D/3D principles and practices to data integration with commercial-off-the-shelf software such as Smart Plant, Tekla, Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and analysis software.
- Set up software for use by disciplines and functions.
- Test engineering applications and provide results to management.
- Develop and deploy reports, queries, material take-offs, etc.
- Work with disciplines and departments to identify and integrate data.
- Provide end user training, support, and assistance in resolution of 3D modeling, drawing, and software issues.
- Customize drawings and report templates based on company and contract requirements.
- Develop desktop instructions related to data management, data integration, data quality, and automation planning.
- Collaborate with off-project automation, other engineering disciplines, and engineering management on engineering-related automation issues.
- Interface with other functions such as procurement, construction, startup, and understand their requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in Engineering, IT, or related field.
- 5–8 years of relevant experience, or 9–12 years in lieu of a degree.
- Must complete a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
- U.S. citizen and able to obtain or hold a security clearance.
- Advanced Smart3D software administration and configuration experience, including Smart
P&, Smart Isometric, and Smart Sketch. - Cross‑functional EPC project experience and passion for implementing new processes.
- Understanding of upstream and downstream user impact on engineering data.
- Experience maintaining software versions and lists for appropriate software usage.
- Industry‑wide database experience with Access, Oracle, and SQL Server.
- Proficient programming in VB6.0, .NET, or similar.
- Competent in data flow, data analysis, and information management techniques.
- Integrating and interfacing data between disparate systems and data types.
- General IS&T knowledge and data security awareness.
- Familiar with regulated environments such as ASME NQA‑1 and BIM or Virtual Design and Construction.
- Excellent oral and written communication and MS Office skills.
