Overview
Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting for a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to support the Sentinel Program at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, UT. The program modernizes the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including ICBM systems and launch infrastructure.
U.S. Citizenship is required. Candidates must have an active security clearance or the ability to obtain a government clearance. This position is expected to be 100% onsite and per diem is available. The targeted base rate is $90.00/hour. Travel to various project jobsites is expected about one week per month.
Note:
This role requires working onsite at Hill AFB, UT, and coordination with DoD and AHJ stakeholders as part of fire protection design and execution.
- Provide technical leadership in the design and development of fire protection systems and equipment for the Sentinel project.
- Prepare design and procurement documents relating to Fire Protection.
- Develop calculations, construction drawings, tailored Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS), and requisition specifications.
- Review and approve sub-contractors’ submittals, assist in determining needed changes, and participate in final testing.
- Coordinate Fire Protection issues with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the development and maintenance of the Fire Protection Design Analysis Report (FPDAR) for facilities using recognized industry approaches, methodologies, calculations, and analyses.
- Assist with design, design review, installation, commissioning, code interpretations, and site walkthroughs to meet project deadlines.
- Support Construction and Startup activities as needed.
- Interface with internal and external customers for the design, installation, and testing of passive and active fire protection systems and components.
- Support DoD or other external regulatory agency reviews of fire protection design and installation.
- Interface with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), including authoring equivalencies and exemptions.
- Perform Fire Protection reviews to determine compliance with UFCs, DoD orders, NFPA standards, and FM standards.
- Support fire protection subcontracts, including review of documents and acting as the technical point of contact.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering is required.
- 5-8 years of experience as a fire protection engineer at a major commercial, industrial, or nuclear facility with a strong background in fire suppression and fire alarm system design.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the fire, life safety, and building codes – including NFPA, UL and FM standards.
- Registered Fire Protection Engineer (PE) who has passed the fire protection engineering written examination administered by NCEES.
- Experience working on DoD government projects and Unified Facilities Criteria.
- Experience using Specs Intact to tailor Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS).
