The student will expand upon their education in botany and add important knowledge and skills necessary to work as a competent field biologist where plant identification and treatment of specimens is required. Main duties will include processing and mounting plant specimens, entering specimen data into a database, and identifying plant specimens. The student will also have the opportunity to assist in the collection and processing of plants specimens.
Responsibilitiesand Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Has completed Taxonomy with a B or better grade or Approval of the Herbarium Curator. Current major in the college of science.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ability to work independently and meticulously. A passion for plant identification as a professional or hobbyist.

Working ConditionsPhysical Activity of this position:
Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Standing. Moving about to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
Lifting. Operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, or position. Grasping. Feeling. Expressing or exchanging ideas. Ability to receive detailed information with or without assistance. Repetitive motion.
Physical Requirements of this position:
Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision:
Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position:
The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 for periods of more than one hour. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
