Summary(Contingent on Award)
The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is assigned to large government healthcare facility program and is responsible for providing employees and customer personnel with a safe and healthful workplace that promotes the prevention of injuries and damage or loss to property and the environment. The SSHO is responsible for monitoring all Operations & Maintenance activities, adhering to EM 385-1-1, supporting the development of health and safety policies and programs, advising and instructing on various safety-related topics, conducting risk assessments, and enforcing preventative measures.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor all O&M activities supported as part of the contract.
- Review existing policies and measures, organize safety training, inspect premises and work activities, investigate incidents, and prepare reports on occurrences.
- Identify hazards, ensure compliance with legislation (OSHA, EPA), and promote a culture of health and safety in the workplace.
- Implement accident prevention controls, and provide program management and technical guidance on diverse, high‑risk and/or complex hazardous conditions.
- Work on‑site, at a minimum, during the facility's normal duty hours.
- Serve as the primary point of contact, responsible for all aspects of the management and administration of the company's safety management program.
- Designate, assign, coordinate, and monitor Alternate SSHOs, Designated Representatives (DR), and Competent Persons (CP) as required by the contractor's accepted Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA), especially when work must be accomplished outside of normal duty hours.
- Five (5) years of continuous safety experience in supervising or managing general industry/construction/O&M, including managing safety programs or processes, or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls. Experience must include implementing safety programs per EM‑385‑1‑1. Evidence of training in EM‑385‑1‑1 is preferred.
- OSHA thirty (30)-hour training certificate or training card (or course completion certificate if within ninety (90) calendar days of having completed the training and card has not yet been issued).
- Resume or certificates demonstrating, for a minimum of the last five (5) years, the applicant has maintained competencies through eight (8) hours of formal safety and health related training per year. Detailed descriptions are required for any training for which a certificate is not available. Generic descriptions are not acceptable.
- MUST BE ABLE TO PROVIDE COPIES OF ALL CERTIFICATIONS.
- Experience in federal government contracting desired.
- Excellent customer service, management, and employee relations skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
- Ability to work independently and recommend solutions to problems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Projects.
- Superior attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment while attending to multiple tasks and demands.
Must be able to communicate effectively with customer(s), direct and indirect staff, supervisors, and office personnel.
