Pack and/or re-pack a wide variety of materials. Verify the condition code of items to be packed and reject those not meeting release order requirements. Determine the type of pack required according to documents and other packing and shipping instructions such as military standards, DOD manuals, and regulatory requirements (HAZNAT, RAD). Report to the designated Lead, Supervisor, or Manager.
Essential Responsibilities- Identify, examine, classify, accept, reject, and dispose of material per DLA regulations.
- Ensure material is properly preserved, packaged, marked, and labeled in accordance with Military Standards before releasing to storage or shipping.
- Select the appropriate size container and cushioning from available stock to protect against damage.
- Conduct basic inspection and examination procedures for material.
- Read specifications and photographs as required by the DLA contract.
- Operate material handling equipment (MHE) in combination with packing duties to load material on and off skids, pallets, stands, and vehicles.
- Receive data from and input data to DSS and other automated systems in performance of duties and prepare basic reports.
- Count, weigh, record data, and prepare and apply tags/labels.
- Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities RequiredMinimum three months of general work experience demonstrating ability to perform position requirements. No specific experience required. High school diploma or GED required; experience may substitute for education at one year of general experience per year of high school. Must obtain a license to use MHE within 30 days of selection. Packers working with HAZMAT material must pass required training. Position may require travel and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
WorkEnvironment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands
Shop environment with hazardous equipment, moving MHE, obstacles, and high activity. Must lift and carry up to 45 pounds for short distances, stoop, bend, kneel, walk, and have full dexterity with correctable vision. Outside work in hot, cold, or wet weather often required. Work environment may have fumes or airborne particles. Noise level is loud. Protective devices required to avoid injury.
