Work Schedule
  • Very Flexible Part-Time Schedules.
  • Typically, lifeguards work 4-29 hours per week. Must be able to work 1 consecutive shift per week. Scheduled work times can range between 4:30 AM - 10:30 PM 7 days a week.
  • Marshall White Center Pool | Year‑round Facility | Opening Spring 2025
  • Lorin Farr Swimming Pool | Summer Only Season
Rate Of Pay
  • LIFEGUARD $13.00 – $17.00 per hour, wage dependent on prior experience with the Recreation Division.
  • HEAD LIFEGUARD $14.00 – $17.00 per hour, wage dependent on prior experience with the Recreation Division.
Get Lifeguard Certified or Re‑certified Through Ogden City Recreation
  • Cost for Ogden City Red Cross lifeguard class is $100.00.
  • Class includes rental of hard copy of book. Book also available online for free.
  • All applicants who pass this class and have successful employment and work 120 hours will be reimbursed $75.00 and receive a fanny pack, hat and CPR mask.
  • Register for class encity.gov.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 15 years old or older.
  • Must be a Certified Red Cross Lifeguard or pass Ogden City Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Training program after the initial interview.
  • All lifeguards taking the Ogden City Red Cross Lifeguarding Training Program will be required to pay for the Red Cross Lifeguard Certification no later than one week prior to training.
  • Head Lifeguard only; minimum requirement 17 years of age.
Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for performing Lifeguard duties in an effective manner.
  • Supervise the conduct of patrons to prevent and/or correct unsafe conditions and behavior.
  • Strictly and tactfully enforce rules, regulations, policies, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons using the facility.
  • Respond to accidents or situations in or out of the water and provide first aid, CPR, and other assistance as necessary.
  • Participate in the record keeping of accidents, rescues, and water chemistry.
  • Help keep the Lorin Farr Pool Facility clean and uncluttered.
  • Help maintain pool areas by putting in/taking out ropes, cleaning decks, and removing all unnecessary equipment from the pool areas.
  • Report unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining positive relations with patrons.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner and be dressed in proper uniform.
  • Assist and support patrons in a positive and productive manner.
  • Respond to questions and/or concerns of patrons in a prompt professional fashion.
  • Handle rule violators tactfully and respectfully.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relations with personnel and management.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in‑service training sessions.
  • Assist other lifeguards and area personnel as necessary.
  • Stay aware of the other lifeguard chairs and areas of responsibility.
  • Provide input for Aquatic area planning.
  • Discuss areas of concern with appropriate personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Head Lifeguard additional functions:
    • Variety of close to immediate supervision to the lifeguards.
    • Ensure and assist lifeguards in properly providing safety in the facility and impart on‑deck supervision of all pools by walking around the facility and scanning pool and deck situations.
    • Assure that staff members are correctly completing their duties.
Working Conditions &

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift a person off the bottom and out of the water (average weight 150 lbs).
  • Ability to push, pull, or lift 20 pounds (frequently), 50 pounds (occasionally), and 150+ pounds (rarely).
  • Perform all physical skills required for lifeguard, first aid, and CPR certifications and in‑service trainings.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time in varying outside air temperatures and climate conditions.
  • Must have sufficient hearing to perform the duties of the job.
  • While performing duties of this job, employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, jump, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Ability to safely climb to, and quickly exit, from heights up to 8 feet.
  • Ability to walk, run, jump, or stand on uneven terrain.
