We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accountant to join our financial team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing a broad range of accounting functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting the organization’s financial health. Your expertise will help us maintain accurate financial records, prepare insightful reports, and uphold best practices in accounting procedures. Key Responsibilities- Process and review vendor and subcontractor invoices for underground utility and gas construction projects.
- Ensure accurate job cost coding for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and fuel costs.
- Match invoices to purchase orders, subcontracts, work orders, and delivery tickets.
- Review and process subcontractor pay applications, ensuring compliance with contract terms and approval requirements.
- Track and manage retention payable, lien waivers, insurance certificates, and subcontractor compliance documentation.
- Prepare and process weekly AP payment runs, including checks, ACH, and wire transfers.
- Reconcile the accounts payable subledger to the general ledger and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare AP accruals and support month‑end and year‑end close processes.
- Coordinate with the controller and project managers to resolve cost coding issues and invoice discrepancies.
- Assist the controller with sales and use tax, 1099 reporting, and regulatory audit requests.
- Support internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Process invoices related to utility materials, including pipe, fittings, valves, meters, and coatings.
- Track costs related to equipment rentals, heavy machinery, and mobilization expenses.
- Support compliance for gas utility requirements, safety documentation, and regulatory standards.
- Assist with documentation related to municipal, utility owner, and gas operator requirements.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in accounts payable or accounting, preferably in underground utilities, gas, or civil construction.
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting and project‑based accounting.
- Experience with Foundation Software and Heavy Job are preferred. Experience with other construction accounting software is a plus (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore, HCSS, or similar).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage high‑volume invoices across multiple active projects.
- Strong communication skills for working with field staff, project managers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced construction environment.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Professionalism and discretion in handling confidential financial information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with public works or municipal utility projects.
- Familiarity with state and local lien laws.
- Experience supporting DOT, gas utility, or municipal audits.
- Knowledge of WIP reporting and project cost forecasting.
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
