PAY SCALE:
Library Associate I
Wages and terms of employment are covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the Portage County District Library (PCDL) and District 1199, SEIU.
HoursAverage of 20 hours per week, includes some evenings and weekends. Hourly, non-exempt, bargaining unit.
Job PurposeServes patrons by processing library materials.
QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalency. Customer service skills, basic computer skills, and experience operating office equipment.
Physical AgilityRequires the ability to bend, stoop, reach, climb, and stand for long periods of time. Requires the ability to lift boxes and crates weighing 40 pounds and the ability to push or pull book trucks weighing 70 pounds. Must be able to lift and shelve materials and move materials from one location to another.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of library practices and procedures; office practices and procedures; basic computer operation, including cataloging utility and data entry. Ability to read and write and communicate effectively in written and oral form; deal with problems involving several variables in familiar context; sort items into categories according to established methods; maintain accurate records. Skills in data entry, typing, and filing.

Technical Services Processing Duties (45%)- Covers books
- Processes A/V materials
- Inventories and cleans rotating units of A/V materials
- Stamps and barcodes library materials
Mends library materials as necessary.
Assists with special projects.
Performs general maintenance of library materials.
Technical Services Acquisition Duties (45%)- Receives library materials and performs processing functions using the circulation system’s cataloging module
- Verifies accuracy of items ordered and quantities received
- Resolves shipping and invoice problems with vendors
- Assists with tracking library processing supplies
Attends staff meetings, workshops, in-service training, and serves on committees, as requested. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Duties and percentage of time spent on each duty may vary depending on staffing allocation.
Staffing allocation throughout the Portage County District Library system may require assignments in other departments or branches.
