The Ruhlin Company is seeking to hire a General Superintendent for the Structural Division, based in Northeast Ohio.
Summary: Coordinate select day-to-day field activities company-wide to help ensure ironworkers and related resources are utilized effectively and efficiently for the successful execution of projects.
Responsibilities:Documentation
- Coordinate, schedule, and manage company ironworker resources including labor, material, and equipment utilizing resource management software.
- Identify improved methods to accomplish tasks and document best practices to share with others.
- Provide input to cost and schedule forecasts; verify work
- Coordinate with project staff for all ironwork activities including sequencing, staffing levels, material quantities, equipment, and work schedules.
- Serve as liaison with project staff to ensure work complies with drawings, specifications, and schedule.
- Oversee all field hourly hiring, terminations, and layoff of ironworkers.
- Participate in various preconstruction meetings.
- Maintain strong field presence by visiting jobsites regularly.
- Help resolve staffing and equipment issues.
- Maintain a work environment free of harassment, intimidation, and coercion.
- Cooperate fully in achieving the Company’s equal employment opportunity objectives.
- Work with project managers and superintendents, in a timely manner, to address any employee relations issues that arise such as inadequate work performance or policy violations.
- Review daily and weekly crew production in relation to original budget and resolve field construction problems (i.e., lack of productivity, work interference, etc.)
- Train and mentor project staff.
- Perform additional assignments as directed by the Division Manager.
- Responsible for ensuring quality workmanship is being performed on projects.
- Monitor that products and methods used meet or exceed project specifications.
- Verify that allocated resources are meeting or exceeding project needs.
- Assist with incident investigations and follow-up.
- Monitor craft and subcontractor compliance with safety requirements.
- Perform weekly safety inspections and ensure toolbox talks are performed.

- Promote the safety culture in a positive manner by leading safety incentive programs, best practices, and various initiative campaigns.
- Review project 3-week look ahead schedules to identify items of work to complete and resources required.
- Communicate equipment needs to the project staff in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with various departments to ensure ironwork resource needs are met.
- Conduct effective weekly meetings with ironworker crews and project staff, as needed.

- Review ironworker employment level projections and participate in recruitment activities as needed to help ensure field staffing requirements are met.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction related field or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or field
- A minimum of 4 years’ supervisory experience in similar construction environment.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
- Advanced knowledge of construction scheduling and cost
- Broad knowledge of construction methods and materials, costing, scheduling, and estimating.
- Willingness and ability to work non-traditional hours including evenings, overnight, and weekends.
- Previous experience directing craft labor preferred but not required.
- Strong leadership presence with individuals and groups of employees.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft 365, Bluebeam, and HCSS.
- Outstanding time management and organization skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Team focused mindset to build strong working relationships.
