Position: Nursing Faculty, 12 month Mental Health/Med Surge
Location: Nelsonville

Overview

Nursing Faculty, 12 month Mental Health/Med Surge (full-time). Salary - Commensurate on experience and knowledge. Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, performs the following functions: provides instructional services; performs academic advising activities; engages in continuous professional development in both teaching and discipline-specific theory and practice; participates in department activities; participates in new student enrollment activities; participates in service to the college;

maintains a safe working area and conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Provides instructional services: develops courses, outcomes and curriculum aligned with Academic Affairs, department and program goals; conveys course outcomes to students; organizes instructional activities; develops syllabi and instructional materials; uses learner-centered methods; provides fair evaluation methods; maintains office hours and records; submits grades on time; seeks feedback on course delivery and student learning; participates in college evaluation of instructional services; updates courses regularly.

    Provides instruction in classroom, lab and/or clinical settings; uses simulation as appropriate.
  • Performs student academic advising activities: assists with recruitment and placement of students; maintains advising hours; meets with advisees; assists students in difficulty; maintains confidentiality and advisee files; monitors graduation progress.
  • Engages in continuous professional development: sets growth goals; maintains/obtains certifications or credentials; seeks resources for professional development; participates in faculty/staff development programs.
  • Participates in department activities: collaborates to meet department goals; participates in committees for nursing accreditation; participates in course/program assessment; shares materials; adheres to departmental policies.
  • Participates in Academic Affairs and institutional activities: supports the mission of Hocking College; follows policies and procedures; promotes positive working relationships; participates in college committees; contributes to assessment of student achievement.
  • Maintains a safe working area and conditions at all times.
Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor of Nursing Degree required; may be currently enrolled in a Master’s of Nursing program;
    Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current, active, unencumbered nursing license in the State of Ohio.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of full-time, professional nursing experience with at least one year in Medical/Surgical and/or Mental Health/Behavioral Health preferred.
  • Degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or CHEA or equivalent.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in the field; active participation in professional associations, seminars/workshops, and independent study.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong technology skills (email, SIS, Microsoft Office, LMS).
  • Organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills; knowledge of subject area and educational theory; understanding of diverse learners and learner-centered education.
  • Educational technology skills, including simulation of clinical practice; ability to maintain confidentiality; caring attitude toward students; motivation and willingness to support student success.
  • Ability to work as a team, prioritize work, and adapt to feedback; commitment to the mission and values of Hocking College.
